In the Kitchen: Spicy Herbed tilapia with Shrimp and Vegetables

Hi Everyone,

This is going to be a recipe post- obviously! I hope to do one at least every two weeks, I love to cook I just never remember to take pictures or notes of my recipes.
This is very simple creation of mine!
Quickly, meals will be rated by level of difficulty, speed and of course overall taste :)
Here we go!
You will need:
2- Tiliapia Fillets (thawed)
4oz - Shrimp fresh and thawed
2 teaspoons of lemon juice
1- Teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1- Teaspoon of parsley
1- Teaspoon of olive oil
A pinch of thyme
A pinch of salt
A sprinkle of Natures seasoning or the equivalent
2- Large carrots
A small head of broccolli
A small head of cauliflower

Directions : Pre-heat oven at 375degrees F,wash Tilapia fillets and set aside, Peel the shrimp and set aside. Chop up the carrots, broccoli and and cauliflower, wash and set aside.

I Like to buy shrimp that is uncooked and has the shell on, Uncooked because the flavor is so much better, over cooked shrimp is not the business.
And Shell on, because I'm that kinda girl, I enjoy peeling it and I believe the tail (which i leave on) adds flavor and flair! :)

Using the aforementioned spices (ignore the garlic in the photo, it was not used), spice up the shrimp and fish together and place in a lightly oil-sprayed pan. Add all the spices but the lemon juice, thats for later. The most important spices are the pepper, thyme and the nature's seasoning (which is a blend of garlic powder, black pepper and just a lil sugar, yes sugar.) this combination of spices give the food unique and delicious flavor.
Place the fish and shrimp in the center of the Pre-heated oven. and very lightly drizzle with olive oil

Place a very small amount of water in a small sauce pan add the vegetables and heat on medium until tender (careful not to over cook, 7-10mins should be enough)

After about 10-15mins the fish should be ready, Carefully remove from the oven. Toss the steamed veggies lightly with a little bit of butter and salt.
Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice on the fish and shrimp

Voila!! Dinner is served.
Prep time: 10mins
Cooking time: 20mins
I would rate this dish a 9/10 because not only was it extremely easy and quick it was delicious! Seafood lovers would enjoy it! The spiciness was just right!
Will you try this?

Opinion: The Not-So-Single Woman.

Hi Everyone,

Firstly let me say thank you to everyone who has visited in the past few days, you may not comment but I know you were here.lol! Thanks for reading and sharing.

So I've been thinking about the roles women play and how they differ from men by situation, and one of them that has been on my mind for a while is being single. By my observations, a lot of women, myself included are not really good at this. Maybe it was how we were raised, societies pressures, a need to be wanted or a nice combination of all of these but it definitely is interesting to explore.

When a woman becomes newly single; she is often encouraged by her friends to go out and seek life! live! enjoy... and then they start to hook her up with  their male friends. See the problem here? And these are all well meaning friends, but somewhere we have defined being happy and "living" into meaning having a significant other (OK this is another conversation. I'll stay on track) The other day I was talking to a friend and found myself doing exactly this. Our conversation went thus:

Me: So how was the party?
Her: It was fun, I met this nice guy.
Me: Oh really? What is he like? What does he do? …etc
(At this point she had to stop me)
Her: He seems like a nice guy, we’v been talking but I don’t want to be in a relationship, he would be a very good friend
Me : :O oh… okay
Without meaning to, I was already trying to figure out if he was a "potential". And it was this conversation that got me thinking. My Nigerian culture places a lot of value on relationships, most importantly marriage, but even in American media, the so called independent woman is usually devoid of any true happiness until it involves a man. These not-so subtle messages get to us, but are they really true? And is being truly single- without looking for the next potential relationship- even possible?

Opinion : Love yourself 101 required or not?

Hi Everyone,
Lets have a discussion.

So I keep hearing this statement "You can't love someone until you love yourself". I probably said it myself in the past too, but the more I think about it, the more problematic it seems to me. Before I get into it, let me mention that i'm a hopeless(ful) romantic, and very optimistic about most things- people don't like my kind too much-

See I'm all for self-love and all and I see how it can make a relationship easier but I really don't see how it interferes with loving another person.

Let me give you a scenario : I have a friend, lets call her M, two years ago she started dating this guy, actually let me back-track M was one of those girls who had been through so much shit, it had you wondering how she was still standing, and thriving. She had a lot of issues in loving herself as a result- Anyways so this boy came along and they started dating, I didn't approve at first, 'cos I didn't think she could give him what he wanted.

But I was wrong, they actually ended up having a pretty healthy relationship, that it had its own dose of ups and downs like most relationships do. They loved each other and everyone could see it. When they broke it off- Hahah no this isn't a happily ever after story- He moved out of the country, She was a better person altogether, it was amazing, that she had somehow found herself in him through his love for her... (there is the hopeless romantic bit)

But yeah there's an example that proves the saying wrong, but of course we don't live in a perfect world and chances are if her Boyfriend had turned out to be a jerk she might have been worse for wear but still...
This is not me advocating throwing yourself into another's arms when you know you have issues with you... I'm just saying I don't necessarily agree with the statement

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? Or have an experience to share?

Date night :OOTD

Hey Everyone, here is an OOTD post (outfit of the day) I don't intend on this being a fashion blog, but as I continue to discover my personal style, I hope to do some fashion posts along the way.

So it was" Date Night" out in the city ( San Francisco) a few weeks ago and I wanted to dress up while staying relatively warm. I have a thing for Blazers and manage to incorporate them into a lot of my outfits. I really like this outfit cos it was super comfortable and I was still a bit dressed up.
The necklace adds a lot of glam and so does the Red lipstick.
My favorite part of the outfit is the shoes cos they aren't heels but are very dressy and the bow just adds a good dose of femininity that I like.
This was an all around win for me. :D

Blazer- ASOS
Crochet Tank - H&M (yearssss ago)
Harem Pants - H&M
Exaggerated Bow Flats- Nine West
Nautical Inspired Necklace - Aldo
The great thing about this outfit was that it was under $100

What do you think?

Hello!

My name is Sabirah, welcome to La Bella Imperfezione.
La Bella Imperfezione means Beautiful Imperfection in Italian. I really like that phrase, and its also the name of the second album of a Nigerian artist I love, Asa. So I thought it would be a perfect name for this blog.
Although i'm not new to the blogging world - I maintained an anonymous blog for about 3years, and I also blog for my Natural hair and Skin company. I have created this blog as a place where I can come and write about things that inspire me; life, fashion, food, love and basically all the things I love. So basically, a lifestyle blog. If you would like to know more about me visit the "About me" tab above. I hope you stick around. :)

P.s : Please leave me a comment about how you got here (I directed you here, Twitter, Facebook, a friend etc..) and anything else you may like.

Till next time...
Sabirah.
